Our school is committed to wellbeing and to ensuring that children are confident and encouraged so that they can achieve their full potential. They will be able to find purpose in contributing to the community, build healthy connections with peers and make the most of the opportunities offered to them. We aim to provide a supportive and empowering environment that promotes kindness, resilience and self-esteem. We hope to enable children to notice their emotions so that they are equipped with the right tools to look after their own mental health and wellbeing. Our school strives to build a whole school approach to supporting wellbeing, where staff, pupils, Governors and parents work as one team to support one another and achieve the best outcomes for everybody. Why do we need a wellbeing and mental health strategy? Over the past two years, we have been developing a wellbeing culture within our school. There is a clear, shared understanding of what wellbeing means and how we can look after others and ourselves. Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy defines ‘how’ we aim to support children, parents, carers and staff with mental health and wellbeing and what practices we implement to support mental health and wellbeing at Southfield Park. The strategy takes into account the Covid 19 pandemic and the significant impact that the closure of the school has had on children and adults in the school community. It is also takes into account the staff, parent and pupil feedback gathered through wellbeing surveys in 2019-20 and considers wellbeing for the whole school community.
